OUR STORY

In 1953, Al and Aileen Piazza decided to build a cafe in the newly relocated town of Kernville, CA.  Old Kernville was a gold rush era town that was being flooded by the rising waters of Lake Isabella. New Kernville was soon to become a tourist destination.

Land in the new town was cheap and they could borrow against their car to buy the property.  Aileen had been waitress at The Biltmore in Santa Barbara serving fine four course meals with formal place settings, but for their first effort, they decided to go with a cafe that would serve breakfast and lunch to the working men who were building the infrastructure of the new town.

Al, Aileen and her mother Amelia (Millie) opened the restaurant on Memorial Day of 1955, and that November, Roberta was born.
